RIO DE JANEIRO
GUIDE
THINGS TO DO DURING THE DAY
Cristo Redentor (Christ the Redeemer)
Go up Corcovado Mountain to see one of Rio’s most iconic landmarks.
Escadaria Selarón
These famous, colorful steps are a popular attraction, although we’ve never been ourselves.
Pão de Açúcar (Sugarloaf Mountain)
Take the cable car to the top for beautiful views of Rio.
Walk Along Ipanema Beach
Take a walk along the beach toward Arpoador, where you can enjoy views of the entire length of Ipanema Beach.
Relax at Ipanema or Leblon Beach
Spend the day tanning at Ipanema or Leblon Beach. Bring your own towel, but beach chairs are available to rent. They might charge you more because you’re a foreigner, lol! Ask the hotel front desk whether your hotel already has beach chairs set up.
Enjoy the Beach Food and Drinks
Try iced mate (cold black tea), coconut water, popsicles, and caipirinhas. You can also sit down for a meal at one of the beach kiosks. I like La Carioca for ceviche or Sel d’Ipanema.
Museu do Amanhã (Museum of Tomorrow)
A science museum with interactive exhibits about the future of humanity and the planet. It’s a great option for a rainy day.
LUNCH SPOTS
A steakhouse with a beautiful view of Pão de Açúcar.
Another great option for meats.
A steakhouse located inside the Jockey Club.
Enjoy a late lunch and stay for the live music.
A great option for Italian food, whether for lunch or dinner.
DINNER & BAR SPOTS
Enjoy dinner and drinks with Japanese-inspired food.
Enjoy the sunset with drinks and food at the Ipanema location. Go up to the rooftop for the view.
A great choice if you’re in the mood for sushi.
A good option if you want seafood.
A restaurant that closely recreates the food served at Mr. Chow.
A contemporary restaurant in Ipanema with a great atmosphere and a varied menu.
