PARATY
GUIDE
THINGS TO DO DURING THE DAY
Boat Tour
Ask your hotel for recommended contacts. Boat tours usually depart in the morning, include a stop for lunch, and return to Paraty in the mid-afternoon. For lunch, you can stop at Dadico if you’re in Saco do Mamanguá, or Hiltinho if you stop at Ilha da Cotia.
Fazenda Bananal
A historic colonial farm with sustainable agriculture. Take a tour of the grounds—it’s very quick—and book lunch afterward. Ask your hotel to make reservations for both.
Alambique Paratiana
Located directly across the road from Fazenda Bananal, it’s an easy stop to make afterward. This cachaça distillery offers a quick tour and tasting, and reservations are usually not required. Cachaça is a traditional Brazilian sugarcane spirit, and cachaça produced in Paraty has a protected designation—similar to how Champagne can only be produced in France.
Explore the Historic Center
The Historic Center is small, cobblestoned, and closed to cars after 10:00 AM. You can easily explore the entire area on foot.
DINNER & BAR SPOTS
Modern Brazilian cuisine featuring local ingredients.
A casual option if you’re in the mood for pizza.
